Copycat Post

Well, since Jyll told one of her "Asian" stories at Hearn Happenings, it inspired me to share one of ours. (I say "one" of our stories, because we have many.) John and I were at the mall a few weeks before Thanksgiving. It's the first and only time I've been to the mall since we've been home. I digress. Ok, so we're strolling past the area where the Massage chairs are set up and several Asians are giving back rubs, etc. One man in particular looks our way, sees John and walks right up to us speaking Japanese. He's smiling and talking away while I'm nodding and smiling, totally confused of course. I just shrug at all he's saying and say "have a good day!" Then, he looks at us in confusion. I wish I'd had the foresight to say..."look, my son is Chinese and I don't speak Japanese." Too little, too late. I certainly don't mind all the stares and the "oh, how cute" comments. But, it sure gets old when people ask, "is he yours?" Duh. No, I'm 30, and my occupation is a babywalker. I think I'll say that next time someone asks. Oh, dear Laura, that makes me think of you - that's something you would be proud of me if I said, right!?

Well, he could be a friend's baby, or something like that. But yes, it's still rude to ask these things. Oh, and he wouldn't even have to be adopted - your husband could be Chinese. But whenever I have the urge to ask such questions, I nip it in the bud and say "Oh how cute." And in John's case, they're not just being polite when they say that. He really is one of the cutest babies I've ever seen. And so much personality for such a little person!

Seriously Jackie, I am SO proud of you! People say the craziest things... and the rudest; especially when Mommy doesn't look like Daddy. Or your skin doesn't match your husbands. To be honest, I don't even notice it anymore...

That's funny and a little sad at the same time. People give us looks all the time with Lilli, and some ask where she is from, but so far no one has asked if she is ours. People can be so rude!

We were telling friends and we had pictures... one guy thought they were my husbands children that I was adopting (hubby is Taiwanese)! We have a 9 yr old and a 4 yr old....and we are adopting a 3, 2, and 1 yr old.....so I said no, no other marriages or relationships...no other anythings...WE are adopting these children....
Some people ask about bio children...most asains ask 'how they got that way'...red hair and oval eyes....
I'm sure there is more to come for all of us....we'll hang in there together :)
