THOGL

The Home of God's Love in Taiwan

June Came Early!

June came early for us this 2008! John's monthly update and pictures arrived today, May 30th, in my inbox. Can you imagine the excitement every time I see the heading "Beverly Skiles, John Neal?!?" Yes, I guess you probably can. It's like waiting on a note from that special person. This is what it's like to be a "new mom." Now I get it. I thought I was in love with Charley...but this is the newest and best kind of love I have ever felt. Charley and I talked last night. (He's in Wisconsin for two weeks.) He is a different person. Seriously. He lives for John. It's beautiful to watch.
Ok, I'll stop gushing and get on with sharing the pictures and note. This month we get a little insight into his personality and temperament! Here's our precious boy!

The note:

"John Neal is doing amazing. He is such a cute baby. He is very relaxed and easy to please. It always looks like he is thinking very hard about something. He has one of the cutest smiles. He eats really well and usually sleeps through the whole night. He loves to play with the other babies on the floor. He is growing so fast. We can't wait till you have him in your arms."

John with one of his caretakers. This was taken on Monday! Today is Friday! I am seeing my baby this week! Yes, I know. I'm a new mom.

John is on the left. I love how his expression says, "Hey, no big deal. You want that one too? It's yours. I don't need that old thing." That's our baby.

Oh, Atlanta...

Last summer I heard Allison Krause and her band play "Oh, Atlanta." Good memories. I miss home so much sometimes it hurts. Mom and Dad's backyard...

Beautiful Wedding and more...

Saturday night I went to Beth and Eric's wedding here in Wilmore.
They got married at Estes Chapel, where Charley and I were married.
It was just gorgeous. My Beth was radiant and Eric was the happiest groom.
Cutest couple ever.

And, their last name is Bentley. When we all arrived for the wedding the white Bentley
hadn't arrived yet. But, when the doors opened this is what we saw!

Isn't that the best ride?!
It was a beautiful day, mild and clear and sunny.

My friend Lynsey came into town from Nashville.

And, Memorial Day I went out to my in-laws farm for awhile.

Happy Mother's Day!

Several weeks ago I was opening our mail and found a letter from Taiwan!
Needless to say, I was a little excited. Here's what I found inside:

Yes, the sweetest card from our John with his handprint on the outside!
The inside reads:

Dear Mom and Dad,
Even though we are many miles apart,
I know that you have me in your heart.
Love,
John Neal
May 2008
I love you!

We are so blessed to have the most caring, thoughtful Christian couple taking care of our baby.

Adam, Charley and Brent

Adam, Brent, Jared, Charley and Ramondo

Well, the move went exceptionally well. Thanks to many friends we are settling in. The guys loaded the truck in about an hour and then we went to lunch at Qdoba's. Yum. We unloaded with some help from friends in Wilmore, too. Tim and Erin and Sara and Jared came over. Thanks to everyone for all of your hard work! It was fun and not too stressful. Seriously. I mean that.

Sara is not pleased that I'm documenting her
presence.

And, how can you resist these two faces?
Tim helped haul boxes while Erin helped clean with Braden on her back!

This week we are cleaning the old apartment, working on adoption papers for John and unpacking and organizing our new home. Whew. Makes me tired just thinking about it!

Charley leaves for Wisconsin this Saturday. He'll be gone for two weeks. We are praying that the call to book our flights to Taiwan won't come while he's away. I hope to have everything unpacked by the time he gets home. Yeah. Right. I don't think that will happen. Only if a certain organizational queen comes to help will it even be a remote possibility.

Saturday, we have a wedding, our family in town Friday, and my dear friend Lynsey will be in town from Nashville. Looking forward to this weekend will be my saving grace this week at work!

Here's John with our picture! We were able to send a few onesies, a blanket and our picture! He sees his mommy and daddy every time he goes to sleep. We think this is the best :)
This is really new to me...but, it's fun already! I am much better at expressing myself in writing than in person, so this will be an adventure that I think I will love.

We are moving this weekend and we are excited to be back in Wilmore after living in Lexington for the past year. It's been a good, but difficult, year for sure. We fostered precious children in the hopes of being able to adopt. After we finally closed our home with social services in February, we met a wonderful couple through my job that introduced us to the wonderful wide world of overseas adoption. Thanks to Rob and Shawnee Fleenor, our new and fun friends, we are in the process of adopting our son! Yes, I said it. Our son. Whew that feels good. We have been so hesitant to talk about him openly, not knowing if opportunity was too good to be true or not. We think we are pretty near the end of the road toward heading to Taiwan. We are hoping that in just one or two months we will be holding our little man.

Pan Jyan (our son's Chinese name) is called Mr. Pan by his wonderful caretakers at the Home of God's Love in Taiwan. Isn't that cute?! Mr. Pan. Hee, hee. He is our miracle! We are naming him John Jyan William Neal. John is my grandfathers name. William is Charley's middle name and Jyan means "strong and healthy."

John is almost 3 months old. For mothers day we received a card in the mail with his little hand print outlined and a sweet note. We have had the BEST adoption experience ever.
